Week 23: Mashup's revisited

Mashup's are a very interesting use of web 2.0 tools. I didn't realise you could put two tools together so easily with out having to have a certificate in computing or data!

I enjoyed browsing through Mashup's Australia and found the combination of web tools combine with stats fascinating. The mashup Suburb matchmaker gave me a bit of a laugh.

week 22 instant messaging

Instant messaging eg skype would be beneficial to a library so that library patrons could participate with say an author talk and the author can have a discussion using skype with out having to be within the vicinity of that city, state or even country.

My previous experience with skype has been positive and look forward to using it in the future.

week 21 google docs

I found google docs to be useful so there will be no more messy email attachments. It is all accessible to a person with the internet and secure enough for multiple people to share documents or presentations etc without the risk of invasion of privacy.
I don't have any new google doc tips of my own, but look forward to reading what my colleagues have to share.

Week 20 Event Management

Doodle

I love the idea of doodle and really enjoyed playing around with it and setting it all up. It has great potential in the workplace for arranging meetings and organising rosters. I can also see the social benefits to doodle in picking dates for staff christmas parties, morning tea's and other gatherings.

Google Calendar

I currently use my outlook calendar attached to my work email, however if I didn't have a work email I can see the significance of googles calendar in keeping me organised online!!

Eventbrite

Eventbrite would be very useful for someone organising a major event. In a small library like south Tamworth it is unlikely to be needed.

Week 19 Productivity more ways with RSS

I'm not an RSS user however through what I've experienced so far I can see why people would regulary use it due to its social nature.I've had google alerts come to my work email and has kept me up to date with the topics I have chosen.

Week 18 Slideshows screencasting and digital storytelling

I was surprised to find a slideshow presentation on living rooms in Tamworth Library in slideshare which goes to show you can find anything in slideshare.

In trying to upload a powerpoint presentation I found it frustrating waiting for conversion time.Thought is was a useful tool for presentations.

Week 17 Nings

I like the idea of nings and the ability to be able to view what others in the community are reading and the ability of the public to share what they are reading and the opinions of the book. I think the idea of discussion through forum is exciting.

This is a great example of collabrating web 2 tools for the benefit of the library community. However I found that there was a lot of information to look at on the page and hard to take it all in.

week 16 Evaluation of web 2.0 tools

Google alerts

I have set up a few alerts for my personal interest. I can see these alerts saving time searching for information. The alert lets you know when the information arrives.

I currently use alerts within the library catalogue to reserve and tell customers what's new. I can see how google alerts would be a useful tool for both work and personal use in saving time looking for information on the web.

Feedburner

Feedburner would be a very useful tool for someone who is using there blog all the time. Although I don't consider my self a blogger I can see the importance and role in providing statistics.

Survey Monkey

Good resource for libraries to find out information by compiling a survey and getting replies.Enjoyed this survey as mine was about cake flavours and what flavour would you prefer?

Week 15 delicious

I only use library management system at work and rarely access the internet and due to restrictions on sites would be unable to access delicious. I personally wouldn't use delicious as I have no personal computer, however I can see the benefits to other businesses so that shops/businesses are linked and can access resources between themselves and making the staff accessible to further products, supplies and resources.

Benefits for libraries
The benfit for libraries are that all the staff are connected and can access each others sites and see what resources someone at another branch is using. Then you could decide whether you want to access those sites as well. Also it could limit time planning events or designing something for work as someone else has their ideas there to see.

Week 14 Twitter

I really enjoyed twitter and following several people of interest.I want to get back in at a later date and continue with this.I can see the possibility of connecting with friends overseas however I need to find my friend's email address to confirm it is them.

Really enjoyed this morning's lesson and can see why everyone is tweeting.

Went into Mosman council twitter feed and saw their National simultaneous storytime library tweet linking to their flickr page. What an awesome idea.

Sandrac1971 is my twitter name!

Week 13 - Blog It

Back to blogging 2.1 style. Haven't blogged since 2.0 as I don't have a personal computer and don't have the time.

I like how personality comes through with someone's blog and you can access other sites and links.

I have not had time to experiment and view other people's blogs,I believe if I had a personal computer I might spend more time online browsing blogs of interest.
